IN THIS ISSUE: new website and newsletter, custom gates with unique detail, and CNC machine education
USHERING IN 2012 WITH A NEW LOOK
Our website redesign …
You may have noticed that our website has gone through a redesign! We are very happy to have an updated format that offers our visitors simplified navigation, searching capabilities, and one-click-sharing on many social networking sites. So, please browse the site and share what you love with your friends!
… and a newsletter update, too!
We’re now incorporating our newsletter into Our Blog, which makes it easier to find and allows our readers to leave comments on each edition – and we hope you do!
Custom gates to match wall detail
This latest collection of gates for a Tempe home were designed to match block detail at the top of the wall surrounding the home’s yard. Notice how the pattern at the top of the gate carries through to the block. We love the final look. What do you think?
Check out the Education Corner section of this newsletter to read more about how we made the detail at the top of the gate.
PROJECTS IN PROGRESS…
It’s been a busy spring at CK Valenti Designs! In upcoming newsletters we’ll share with you:
- an ash coffee table
- oak cabinet doors
- a built-in media center for a corporate conference room
- more restaurant reserved signs (remember these?)
- a three-panel copper art arrangement

Cutting metal with a CNC machine
Let’s talk basics first: what’s a CNC machine? A CNC (“computer numerical control”) machine is a tool controlled by a computer, used for the purpose of manufacturing complex parts. In order to perform the fabrication, the CNC machine may have capabilities of drills, lathes, routers, milling machines (and more) that are used sequentially to create parts. CNC machines speed up the manufacturing process and make it possible to create multiple copies of the same part. CNC machines can cut many different types of materials, including metal, wood, and acrylic.
For the project featured above, a CNC machine was used to cut the block wall design out of metal. To mimic the wall pattern, first a tracing of the block design was made. The tracing was measured and drawn in AutoCAD, and then exported in a format the CNC machine could read. The file was read in by the CNC machine and cut accordingly!
Here are a selection of CK Valenti Designs projects that included the use of CNC machining:
