PROJECT SPOTLIGHT

Work in Progress

Rendering

This month's spotlight provides a view into our design process. Before a custom project can be built, it has to be designed. We've found the best way to communicate a custom design is to render it in a three-dimensional (3-D) drawing, or "rendering". A 3-D rendering allows the customer to see their project, how it fits within a room, as well as all the design elements, before any construction begins. This makes design changes much easier to accommodate than after the work has actually started. The rendering above is an in-progress draft of a murphy bed with a folding desk in Southwest style. EDUCATION CORNER

Murphy Beds

A "Murphy bed", or wallbed, is a bed built into a closet or freestanding structure that allows the bed to be stored away when not in use. Although William L. Murphy patented this type of bed, in 1989 a court ruled that the use of the term "Murphy bed" is no longer allowed to be trademarked because the public perceives the term as a general term for a hide-away bed.
Murphy bed construction typically includes the bed frame, legs, hinge mechanism and the structure that encapsulates the bed.
